Eagerly looking forward to our next stay at Jungle Hut!

We booked our stay at Jungle Hut based on three independent glowing recommendations from family and friends. Now, reflecting back on our own excellent 4-day experience there, we would happily add our strong recommendation too for JH! The scenic verdant setting in the shadow of the mountains, the comfortable rooms with all the amenities, the superlative food (special kudos to the chef and the kitchen staff), a wonderful pool to soak in between nature walks and other adventures are a few of the many excellent features offered by JH. However, what really stands out is the thoughtful care and attention extended by Tracey, Gibran and every member of the staff toward any additional needs of each guest, in our case, toward those of our young child. We sincerely hope that our future travels will take us to our next memorable stay at JH!

An amazing getaway

We stayed at Jungle Hut for 2 nights with my family. We had an amazing experience with the team right from the beginning when I enquired about the property. We were travelling with a six months old baby and hence had a lot of questions, and Shruthi was very patient in clarifying all our concerns. The stay was amazing - the rooms were clean and spacious, all the meals were delicious with a good variety catering to the needs of all age groups. We went on a short stream walk around the property. Cannot recommend this place enough.

Forest Nirvana

You know that you have chosen the right place for a getaway when you get a call two days prior to your travel asking about your dietary preferences, likes and dislikes and ending with a promise of having a hot meal waiting for you at the time of arrival. That feeling only gets intensified every minute of your stay there. That is Jungle hut, Masanagudi, for you.

Being in Jungle Hut is like running into the welcome sanctuary of mother nature's lap; cradled by the strong arms of the mountains, protected by the earthiness of the jungle, soothed by the raw beauty around you, warmed by the mild sun and pristine air, calmed by the low rustle of the tall trees and the murmur of mountain streams, nourished by the sights and the sounds of the birds and the beasts, and comforted by the inherent stillness and strength emanating from the forest, you sink into a thumb-sucking langur of peace and security. Your anxieties fade, your breathlessness eases, your restlessness settles, your wounds heal. You are lulled to sleep with the hum of the cicadas and the croak of the tree frogs; you awaken to bird song and the chatter of little creatures. A magical world with prancing deer, naughty langurs, active wild boars, trumpeting elephants, leaping squirrels and fluttering birds. You need no safari. All that you seek is right outside your room. You begin to breathe and the forest lets you be. Yourself. No artifice. You find your soul.
Coming to more practical things.

The property: Open yet cosy layout designed to be in harmony with nature. All cottages and rooms are cleverly positioned so that you see an open expanse and not a building or a wall. You get to enjoy a private space to soak in nature.

Amenities: You won't miss the comforts you are used to. Meticulous attention to detail ensures that every little need is anticipated and provided for. From having a wash basin for children at just the right height for them to wash hands without help, to candles and torches in the rooms, to umbrellas and stands in accessible places, to a guard miraculously appearing with a spotlight every time you step out at night, your needs are top priority in JH. A beautiful pool you can lounge around while looking up at the blue mountains, a well-stocked library, board games and play area for children all add to the charm.

Rooms: Large, airy rooms. Well appointed with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The bathroom is modern. You get 24×7 hot water powered by solar panels.

Food: If there is anything that can match the draw of the beauty of the surroundings, it is the food. There is a carefully curated menu with dishes made from secret traditional recipes with fresh local produce and each dish becomes a mouthwatering fantasy. The food alone makes the trip more than worthwhile.

Hospitality: The staff at Jungle Hut is well trained and quietly efficient. They are extremely warm and hospitable, going to any lengths to see that guests are treated like royalty.

A big shout out to Aniketh, who manages the property brilliantly, entertained us with stories and anecdotes of the wild. Rajesh, who showed us a wondrous world of birds and plants during our amazing nature walks. Tracy, who provided the zest and the energy with her indefatigable energy and good humour.

A lovely place with amazing people, excellent food. You can easily be in forest nirvana. I can go on waxing eloquent with not a negative comment to make. The only negative I can think of is that it is a physical wrench to leave the place. It is like a heady drug, you get withdrawal symptoms within days of leaving and you yearn to go back.

If you want to reset, recharge, re-centre and rejuvenate then don't hesitate for a second. Pack your bags and run to Jungle Hut.

Perfect

This is a perfect place to stay when visiting Mudhumalai or Bandipur Tiger reserves. The staff were incredibly helpful from the first contact, arranging transport for us and providing special diet meals for me. The premium room was very large and well appointed. The grounds are delightful with spotted deer and wild boar wandering freely but be aware the langur and macaque monkeys visit so kept your door shut. We went on the bird watching walk with Rajesh who can identify all S Indian avian species at a glance. He is a mine of information and a great wildlife spotter from the Jeep on safari. We saw Tiger and sloth bear in Bandipur and elephants, gaur and sambar deer in both parks. Sitting around the pool is so peaceful after a morning walk to the hill temple, the food was fantastic and I can’t recommend Jungle Hut or the team highly enough. Definitely a 11/10 stay for us.

A slice of peace and quiet in the heart of a game reserve

A slice of peace and quiet in the heart of a game reserve. The managers are excellent, very professional and friendly and you feel immediately upon arrival that you’re in safe hands.

They walk around supervising the staff and making sure everything is as it should be - a rare yet invaluable quality in hotel managers nowadays. Beautiful views over the mountains. The perfect place to relax and forget about the hectic pace of life outside. Food quality is superb and we ate some of the best food we’ve eaten in our three months touring around India. Clean, well appointed rooms with a decent sized bathroom and comfortable beds.

Memorable getaway

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Jungle Hut. We spent 3 nights and celebrated my husband’s 60th birthday there. The staff are very friendly. The food was absolutely delicious. The cottages were very comfortable. We had the added luxury of enjoying massages in our room. There is a very comfortable lounge where one can just hang out. The ambience is perfect to plan a big family or friend’s reunion. We will be back!

PARADISE near Ooty!

Some of the coined descriptions of the Jungle Hut Resort by our family that visited Jungle Hut were: "Heaven on Earth", "Friendly and Enjoyable", "Simply Superb", "Amazingly Beautiful", "Luxurious Serenity", and "Just Perfect"!!!!!!

The staff at Jungle Hut, then, consisted of Aniket (Manager), Tracy, Nikhil, Biswajeet Pal (Chef) - all under the able leadership of the owners (Vikram and his wife, Anushree). Apologies for leaving out the names of several other support staff.

During our last visit (I think we have made a total of 3 or 4 visits to date and one more scheduled for January2025), we were greeted (soon after check in) by a herd of deers, freely roaming around just outside our cottage! What a beautiful sight. And, the chirping of "Red whispered Bulbuls" - so many of them, living free in nature - just outside!

Lunch selections were wide and very tasty! I'd give it a 15 out of 10. (Yes, 15 out of 10!) "Afternoon Tea" consisted of a selection: tea, coffee, "filter coffee", hot milk, etc. And, of course, "sweet and slightly salty" cookies to go with it. It was an excellent experience - just absolutely great! The food, both South Indian and North Indian dishes, the service, the choice, etc. were out of this world!!

Night was very quiet! Peaceful - exceptional rest at night! Woke up to birds chirping - beautiful way to wake up (instead of an alarm clock!). We did hear sounds of bamboo breaking at night, from the forest nearby. Following mornings, we were to learn that elephants are frequent visitors to this place. Peaceful coexistence? You bet!! We got to see a "lone tusker" one late evening, minding his business, chomping on the bamboo shoots!!!!

Morning filter coffee or tea, your choice! Sweet and slightly salted homemade cookies on the side!! Wow! Life is to be enjoyed this way! Total relaxation!!

One morning, my brother's glasses needed repair - the staff came to the rescue. They were so attentive that they arranged to send it to an optician to have it fixed! That is service, over and beyond!

Our driver accompanied us to the resort, and he was treated very well. He was talking about the great food and the accommodations. Specifically, he said that this was the best that he had ever experienced. For this class act, I am very grateful. I'm glad that he was treated no different than us. Thank you, Jungle Hut owners and staff! You folks are great!

A belated review, I agree, after so many visits! They say that the proof of the pudding is in the eating! So, .... we have reservations to visit Jungle Hut again - 3 couples this time - during January-February 2025. We are looking forward to it, to enjoy the customer-focussed service that the staff specializes in! The courtesy, the hospitality, the service, the environment, the scenery, the food, ........Can't wait!!

Sorry for this choppy write-up; I just didn't want to delay posting this review any further!!!!!!
